n igniter is a small device to light your furnace and heat the gas. The igniter switch is utilized every time your furnace comes on, so it’s important to ensure that it is functional. In older furnace models, a pilot light is built into the furnace to light the gas. But newer models either include it as an alternative option to the igniter or scrap the pilot light altogether.
